Re: does a costume make a dance ?

I think costumes are important for any dance. It really does help with portraying the idea of the dance.
I think it can also help the dancers who are performing, I use to love wearing the costumes it made the dances complete and felt I could perform to my best ability.

Re: Diversity - Britain's Got Talent

I think Diversity were much better. I loved them. Where do they get their ideas from?
I really like the lift idea. How clever, and the section where they did Britain's Got Talent and they did the buzzers.
Simple yet so creative.

I think Flawless were good, but Diversity have the better ideas.

What is the difference between modern and Contemporary?

Hi.

I am wondering if you can help me?
I need to explain the difference between modern and contemporary dance, for some of the girls who are thinking of taking GCSE dance. Anyone got any simple differences I can use to explain it to them. I would love to encourage them to take it.

Thanks.

Re: warm up

I think cooling down is very important in any class, but I think a lot of us might be guility of not following it as importantly as we should. You do need to reduce your heart rate, gradually also make sure as warm as you maybe when you finish a class you must wrap up, if your going outside. Otherwi...

Re: own arrangment music

I think you should pick a piece of music that suits your style of dance.
What style of dance do you prefere?
Or go down the route of what is your favourite piece of music that you have always wanted to dance to? Then put that with your favourite style. See what you come up with.

Re: New Hairstyles

That website sounds like it could be good for some new ideas. I will have a look too. It is always nice to have some fresh ideas to work with.
Hair styles have changed so much over the years. When I started dancing it was just a bun! With no fringe. How times have changed.

Re: What is Lyrical

I personally agree with all of you! And from experience it does depend on what the adjudicator wants on the day.
I try to get the students to always perform their lyrical solos with feeling. I think it should always be a sincere performance.
Enjoy.

Re: is ballet important if you want to be good at lyrical ?

Hello. I think to do lyrical then having done some ballet will help, even if it is just the basic. So you have more control of your centre and your feet are well placed. Try some basic ballet lessons and see if it helps, you don't have to become an amazing ballet dancer, just try it out. Don't worry...

Re: Flexability

I like the idea of stretching when you come out of a warm bath, that is a good suggestion.
And staying determined will help.
You must let us know how you get on and how far you go.

Good luck Lucy :)

Re: props for my mod solo

If your talking about using your props then the more you do the dance the more you will get use to them, and before long you will feel as if you have never danced with out them! If you wondering what props to use good simple ones could be a hat, a chair, a book. These are basic ones you see in festi...

Re: festivals good or bad

My experience of festivals has always been good. I really enjoyed them when I was dancing in them. I use to get very nervous at times but it never stopped me dancing. As I got older the nerves eased a little. I don't think they ever go away. But sometimes you can focus them in a positive way to brin...
