Senoir Tap

Hi Littlelea

Once you reach senior age you should be experienced enough to be able to select music that is appropriate for you but yes, it can be difficult to find the right piece of muisc.

You want to stand out from the crowd at your age so something unique would be good.

There are some great ideas on youtube - if you search for "Showstoppers" you will get loads of results from an American TV show - its basically like our festivals but on a bigger scale.

The Americans are experimenting with hip-hop styles for dance now, maybe you would like to try that :?:

However, many of the adjudicators in festivals are 'mature' and they prefer to see 'traditional' tap music being used. If you are able to build up a selection of 3 or 4 different solos using different types of music you can use the most appropriate music depending on who the adjudicator is in a festival.
Watch a few sections and try to work out her likes and dislikes and just use the the one you think would suit that particular festival.

Festivals?

Postby danceislife » Mon Apr 20, 2009 12:54 am

Hi Fred, i noticed you mention festivals?! :)
Are these in England??
What festivals are they??
Thanks :D

Oh and... For a show i was recently in we used a piece of music called Celltic tigers... it was a slow, irish, instrumental kind of piece, but it worked really well...
Irish dancing is very similar to tap and not too hard to learn when your advanced enough in tap :)
Hope that gives you a good idea :)
It was very fun learning something new :D

Tap Music

Postby Fred Astaire » Tue Apr 21, 2009 6:33 am

Hi Danceislife - welocme to the forum - why not post a thread in the "New Members Introduction" section and tell us all about yourself?

Festivals - yes, we have been involved with festivals in England and home here in Wales - I have just made a new section just for festivals - If you have any ideas of things to go in there please let me know.

My wife (Elsa) uses Celtic Tigers for her adults - great music.

Maybe you can find some ideas if you follow the link in my signature below. :?:

I dont know if you are aware, Sing, Sing Sing was done by a drummer called Gene Krupa.

He has done lots of things like SingX3 and one that I have used was called "Cute". Have a google and see what else you can come up with

I have tap danced to Sing, Sing, Sing which I love it was and still is one of my favourite tap dances I have ever done.
It won us a few medals over the years we did it.
I have also tap danced to Cute. It was my last tap solo! Again a great peice of music.

Hi, I'm audtioning soon to teach the beginner tap class at my uni, and wondered if anyone had any ideas as to what song I could use?
Songs I normally use would probably be too fast for a begginer class, and I don't wantto use things from when I wasa beginner as they may be a bit childish (I remember my first tap dance was to winnie the pooh, not really appropriate for people 18+ lol!)

Thanks for any help
