Where can I buy tailor made costumes from?

Postby littlelea » Thu Apr 16, 2009 8:14 pm

I need to buy costumes that can be tailor made but it is difficult to find anyone who does this. Is there anyone on the internet that provides this service?

Hi Littlelea - Welcome to the forum - maybe you can ask your friends to join so we can build a stronger community of Stage & Theatre dancers - the US have a strong forum, so it's about time we had one too :D

I seem to remember seeing a couple of people on ebay doing this, but it can be expensive.

You have to be really accurate when you send out your measurements to the tailor, and if the costume doesnt fit right when you recieve it you can end up having to send it back for alterations. Just the postage alone can work out to be a little expensing because by the time you have recieved it for the first time, sent it back to the tailor and then had it delivered back to you it all adds up.

Maybe it would be better to try to find someone local to you who can make a costume, at least you can go and try it on and alterations can be far quicker since you won't have to wait for the postal service.

Maybe you could try typing 'Taylor made cheer costumes (or) kits' into Google?
I know it sounds strange but alot of cheerleading kits are esspecially made to suit a team and alot of companies make costumes aswel as cheer kits!! This is because of 'pom dance' (A section in cheerleading competitions, where any costume (to a limit) is allowed)... I know that my dance teacher has done this before but im not too sure of the website she ended up finding...
I dont know if it will work for you but if all else fails... :)

Hope i helped

Mr Frog Dancwear makes custom made costumes but as Fred Astaire has already said they are not cheap. :(
Take a look at my Ebay store for your dance costume needs, all Brand new from well known manufacturers.

hi
whenever i need a custom made lycra costume (modern, tap whatever) i go to darling dancewear. it's quite expensive but the lycra + making is superb quality and i'm always pleased with the costume. they're based in surbiton. i don't know where you live but if it's not a huge treck i think you should go and have a look at the great range of lycra they have. on the other hand, if you don't want lycra then darling dancewear probably isn't the best place to go....

Hi, it is hard to find someone to make good custom made costumes - not many people sew these days!

I make costumes, and as much as I prefer to make them for people that live locally so I can adjust the fit my satisfaction, I do make quite a few mail order, using emailed measurements. I have not had any major fit issues and include instructions for simple alterations for things like tutu bodices - I make them in such a way that the fit can be adjusted by anyone who can sew on a button, and have never had one returned to me for alteration
