Most people go for a french plait - it looks good for most dances and if you are at a festival it saves you time if you have a few dances on the same day

it really depends on how much hair and time you have! these are the current hairstyles for some of my solos at the moment (i have quite long hair)
modern - messy/spikey bun. it's just a normal bun but instead of winding all the hair around, leave a little bit out. then, on the bit that's sticking out, put on loads of hairspray and back-comb it! :D
tap - one messy/spickey bun on each side of my my head
lyrical - two small french plaits on either side of my head and the rest loose. do two small french plaits on either side of your head but intead of tying them with a hair band, use hairpins/kirby grips to pin them at the back of your head, under the rest of your loose hair.
ballet - bun with twists. do a ponytail about in the middle of your head but leave out two small sections at either side. do a bun as normal. then, twist the one section of hair and wrap it round the bun. repeat on the other side. this also works well with little plaits.
a good cheat is to just do a normal bun and clip in a hairpiece - you can get loads of differnt styles!!!
a good website to look at is cutie pie hair creations
hope this helps :)

That website sounds like it could be good for some new ideas. I will have a look too. It is always nice to have some fresh ideas to work with.
Hair styles have changed so much over the years. When I started dancing it was just a bun! With no fringe. How times have changed.

for compotions recently we had our hair all the same for troupes we had it with too french plaites going back but with a side parting into a spikey bun at the back and it looked very neat and tidy on stage no matter how long your hair was and for the lryicals we just put a bun net over it to make it look neater but we often got comments on how neat it looked

The website sounds good. I will have a look at that as we are always interested in new ideas.
I do like the french plaites with a bun at the back. It does make a dancers hair look neat. It is a great hair style for group dances it really finishes off a dance.
