Uncovering the story of African Dance in Modern Britain
MeWe is a busy and successful performing arts company based in South West
London. We are looking for young, talented dancers to perform in a
documentary about African Dance. The documentary is funded by the Heritage
Lottery Fund.
The documentary will explore African dance from a modern, youthful viewpoint
– looking at the history, styles and social relevance in modern Britain. We will
examine how African dance is perceived, questioning stereotypes and providing
fresh insights. We will also look at the links between traditional African dance
(West African ) and modern dance forms.
The documentary will contain footage of rehearsals of the dancers as well as
the full, finished dances. You'll also perform for a live, public audience.
YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE AFRICAN!
We want the dance company to be diverse as possible. Applicants should be
aged 16-30 and have some training or experience in dance. We require male
and female dancers.
Please email info@mewe.org.uk giving your name, age and a contact phone
number. Please attach a CV or an outline of your experience in dance. We will
then send you details of the audition.
Audition Date and Time
Auditions will take place in Kingston Upon Thames. Rehearsals will take place in
the evenings at a venue closer to central London. You will need to be available
from August 1st until September 19th 09.
We look forward to hearing from you!
